A naked DSL (a.k.a. standalone or dry loop DSL) is a digital subscriber line (DSL) without a PSTN (analogue telephony) service — or the associated dial tone. In other words, only a standalone DSL Internet service is provided on the local loop.

Confused on which router you need to work with your Nextelle Internet? Nextelle will provide you with a wireless router and set up all appropriate channels and Wi-Fi in your home. Nextelle will replace the router at no cost in the event that it quits working.

Not necessarily. If you do not get DSL from the Telco, the telco may still have to provide the (new) copper line, then the DSL providing company (CLEC) comes to do any necessary inside wiring. In many cases, the communication between the Telco and the CLEC (Covad, Northpoint etc), is not great, and the line cannot be found, or is not left sufficiently close to the premise, necessitating further visits and delays. For Telco ADSL, however, an existing line can be converted to an ADSL line, and the Telco normally has an “install yourself” package where they ship you the necessary materials, provision your line, and you simply hook up your modem and computer. In some cases, they might have to visit to install a splitter or a filter, and/or upgrade the NID (which is the phone junction box in your premise

Yes. DSL modems have been designed so that your normal telephone service will operate even if the computer or DSL modem is unplugged or otherwise disabled.

Yes. If you move to a residence where Nextelle is available, you can continue your contract. Nextelle can test your new location for free to determine serviceability.  Nextelle charges an $50 move fee to re-install equipment at your new location. If you are moving, and we cannot service the new location, the EFT will apply.

If you live inside the Metro City limit,s chances are that the service is available at your location. When you signup it will be verified and there is no charge to you if it’s not available at your location.

In most cases your current number can be ported to our service. There is no charge  for porting a number.

Yes and your term commitment will be extended by 1 year. Your current DSL router/modem will be replaced at no cost with an ADSL router/modem.

You can pay outright for the ADSL equipment at a one-time charge of $100.00. At the end of your current commitment you would either need to renew for another year or pay the then-current monthly rate.

Yes, you can access the Internet and talk on the phone at the same time.

If you currently have our DSL service it will take 5 to 7  business days depending on whether you are keeping your current telephone number. If you don’t currently have DSL service it will take 5 business days regardless of whether you keep your current telephone number.

Sure you can.

Yes, your primary line will work for voice calls even if the power is out at your location. Your DSL connection would not work unless you have a UPS for it and your computer.

The high-speed Internet will be delivered via Rate Adaptive ADSL with a speed of 1.5mb down/512kb and more. Actual speed will depend on distance and loop coniditions, with a minimum of 384kb down.

Yes!  While routers are not supported by DSLExtreme technical support, you may use them to connect multiple computers to your DSLExtreme connection.

Yes. You may host a server on your connection as long as it is within our acceptable use policy. Spamming is not allowed and strictly enforced. If you plan on hosting a server we recommend a static IP address package with ample upload speed for your server applications.

Port 25 is blocked for all customers to prevent against spam generated from our network by default. DHCP and Static IP customers who wish to remove this block may do so by changing their options in the members page.

DSL won’t affect Caller ID, voice mail, call waiting or other advanced calling features; however, Distinctive Ring may not work with DSL in some areas.

Yes, America Online and MSN offer a special “Bring Your Own Access” plan that connects using TCP/IP for customers who already have high-speed Internet access (ISDN, DSL, etc.). This allows you to use your DSL service to access AOL & MSN content.

No. DSL technology utilizes higher frequency spectrums for data transmissions that are not being used by voice communications. This allows simultaneous analog voice or fax and DSL data transmission over the same telephone line. You still use your phone as you do now.

A DSL end-user must be equipped with a DSL modem and a network ready computer. The DSL modem must be compatible with our DSL equipment and can be ordered from Nextelle. In addition, the end-user’s computer must meet recommended minimum system requirements.

Installation instructions are provided with your Home Installation kit.  In brief:
Step 1 – Install DSL Filters
DSL filters, also known as micro-filters, keep the DSL and voice signals seperate.  Installing them is as easy as plugging in your phone.
Step 2 – Install DSL Modem
If you don’t already have a DSL modem, you may order one as part of your service, including detailed installation instructions. Plug the modem directly into the wall jack, using the phone cord provided.
Step 3 – Configure Your Computer
Most computers are configured in 5 easy steps.

It is possible, but it will usually require professional installation involving additional equipment at your location. We HIGHLY recommend that you use a direct line not associated with your phone system such as a fax line.

Nextelle invoices for a one month period and all bills are due on the first day of that period. For example, if the invoice due covers the time period of March 2nd to April 2nd, the bill is due promptly on March 2^nd

Did you know that Nextelle charges $80 per hour for most service visits?  As part of the Nextelle Plan, this rate is waived when our support team deems you need a service call. If it’s the customers fault than a $80 per hour charge will apply. 

 *Dispatch will schedule your service call for the date / time that the first available tech will be in your area.  An additional charge will apply for expedited calls.

No. Nextelle DSL Internet access is unlimited. You will not have to worry about how long your modem or computer is in use or turned on.

No. Nextelle has no hidden fees. We charge you for the DSL circuit, Only the ISP service, and federal taxes in a single low monthly bill that is from us not the telephone company.

Automatic Credit Card Billing – Charges automatically deducted at the beginning of the month from your Credit/Debit card.
Make Payments Online – If you want to continue to receive a paper statement in the mail, but want the ease of paying your bills online, you can make credit card payments online by logging into the Member page.

Payment can be made over the telephone with a debit or credit card for an additional $1.99 fee.

Auto pay, using a debit/ credit card or ACH, can be set-up to automatically process your payment on the day you invoice for services monthly.

An IP (Internet Protocol) address identifies a computer or other device on the Internet for the purposes of sending or receiving data. It is much like a telephone number. Having a static IP enables you to be able to host a server or setup VPN’s or remotely administer your computer. Basically you always know where on the internet your machine is because it isn’t moving around.

No. Personal web-space is not IP address specific.

DSL technology provides a dedicated service over your existing phone lines or Dry loop (without activee phone line). This means that you don’t have to share your local access connection with other users.

DSL is based on Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL), a super-fast modem technology that can provide data transmission at significantly higher speeds than your standard 56K modem. DSL transforms standard twisted-pair copper telephone wires into a high-speed digital pipe. Since this wiring is already in place in most homes and offices, millions of users can switch to DSL service without the need to run new wires to your location. DSL is designed to take advantage of the portion of the bandwidth not used for voice calls. DSL technology splits your phone line into three information channels. One carries data at high speeds from the Internet to your home computer. Another channel transports data at moderate speeds from your home computer to the Internet. The third channel handles regular phone calls and faxes. You’ll be able to surf the Internet while making phone calls or sending a fax. Your regular phone line will continue to work in the event that a power failure affects your computer.

Nextelle offers several packages with download speeds ranging from 192kbps – 100 mbps. Nextelle DSL customers enjoy the ability to download files and surf the Internet at lightning speeds. Throughput speeds experienced will be lower than connection speeds based on factors including the distance between your home and the telephone company central office; the condition of your line; traffic on the network and the Internet; and the performance of servers hosting Web sites you visit among other factors.

Normal telephone usage occupies a very small portion of the total range of frequencies available over phone lines.  DSL uses a range of frequencies that begin above where normal telephone usage stops.  Micro-filters prevent the different ranges of signals from causing interference with one another.
